Description: 1867, 1st. Large Thick Octavo. xx, 599pp. Complete with 48 chromolithograph plates, numerous wood engravings and a folding map (in pocket). Original green cloth, gilt titles and bird decoration to upper cover. Spine extremities rubbed. Small surface loss to lower corners, slight ripple to cloth on rear board. Inner-hinges cracked and tender in a few places which has caused the text-block to bulge in a couple of places (see image). Former ownership signature to end paper, another former inscription has been erased from the head of the title page. Some mild/light spotting/foxing to plates. Otherwise a 'Good+' copy.

Description: 600 pages with woodcut and chromo-lithograph illustrations. The map is not present. Text in English. There are 48 chromo-lithographs, some with mild foxing on the borders. The leather is moderately worn and the raised bands are lightly scuffed. Leather title labels on spine (the author in gold on black and the title in gold on red). The outer front hinge has been reinforced with hinge glue and is solid. Prior owner bookplate on insided front cover. The overall appearence is worn but good. Interior is unmarked, tight and clean - but some light foxing on a few pages. Interior condition is solidly good. A respectable copy of a fairly scarce title. General Index and Latin Index of Scientific Name at rear - prepared by P. A. Nuttall.
