Black and white illustrations. The Food of the Gods and How It Came to Earth is a science fiction novel by H. G. Wells, first published in 1904. Wells called it "a fantasia on the change of scale in human affairs. . . . I had hit upon [the idea] while working out the possibilities of the near future in a book of speculations called Anticipations (1901)." The novel is one of his lesser known works. There have been various B-movie adaptations of the novel.

Description: First Edition. Wells H. G. First Edition THE FOOD OF THE GODS AND HOW IT CAME TO EARTH 1904. Octavo 8vo. pp. 317 plus a 16-page publisher's advertising catalogue inserted at rear promoting books by such authors as Winston Churchill, Kipling, Warton etc. and of course Wells. The insert has some slight foxing and last page ever so slightly splitting from the spine. Gilt lettering on spine and front with beautifully designed blind embossing on the original olive green buckram. Top edges in gilt and all clean and neat. The spine is darkened with age, and has some bumping and rubbing to the top and bottom of the spine. There is no previous markings or owner on this edition. A solid book for any collector.

The story was adapted into several graphic novels and B-movies including the 1976 science fiction thriller of the same name produced and written by Bert I. Gordon.
