A near fine copy. This copy inscribed by Foreman to his wife: "For Carolyn with love and appreciation for your help and sustaining encouragement in the making of this and my other books, without which they could never have been produced. Grant, October 26, 1935." In addition to this warm inscription there are some editorial corrections and pencil notes, as well as a one lengthy typed note inserted. Laid in is a TLS to Foreman from the National Archives related to the earliest usage of the denotation, "five civilized tribes." Excellent association copy.
