Description: First American edition, first issue with Farrar and Rinehart imprint. The total edition was 750 copies, some 419 of which were purchased by and used for the second issue by New Directions with a new titlepage in 1940. This copy is one of a scant 331 copies issued by the original publisher in 1937, making this one the scarcest trade issues of Pound's Cantos, the third installment of Pound's monumental work, containing Cantos XLII - LI, praised on the rear flap by Ernest Hemingway, as well as by T.S. Eliot and Ford Madox Ford. A seminal work in the modernist canon. Small finger smudge on fore-edge, else quite a tight, fine copy in a bright, crisp equally fine dust jacket with the original $1.50 price intact. Very scarce in the right issue and in this condition.
