Mann, Klaus. THE FIFTH CHILD: A Modern Romance. Boni and Liveright (1927), New York, 1927.

Price: US$350.00 + shipping

Description: First American edition. His first book to be translated into English. Translated by Lambert Armour Shears. Klaus was the son of Thomas Mann. An opponent of fascism, he was one of the first German writers to go into exile. He went on to become one of the most versatile and productive members of his generation of writers, eventually making his home here in the U.S. There are two tiny spots at the bottom of the spine where the cloth is worn through, otherwise the book is very good to fine in a lightly spine-tanned dust jacket with small chips and tears and split at front spine fold, but still attractive. Boni & Liveright promotional 4-page leaflet with some edgewear laid in. A scarce book.
