Description: Quarter-Centennial Edition Vol. III, Issued by the Class of '95. Red and white cloth with gilt decoration, 4to, x, 274, xi-xxv pp. Willa Cather was on the Board of Editors for this yearbook, and this edition contains the following contributions by Cather: 1. Facsimile signature on page 5 (with other members of the Board of Editors.) 2. Photo page 83. 3. The poem "Anacreon". 4. The short story "The Fear That Walks By Noonday", pages 224-231, which was the first prize story of the year. 5. Photo of Cather as a child page 272. All the Cather pages clean and in very good condition. Page 173 of this yearbook is loose but present. It is the photo of the University Cadet Battalion of 1894, and handwritten at the top is "Pershing's First Battalion". John J. Pershing, who later rose to the rank of General and commanded American forces during World War I, was the First Lieutenant of the Battalion and served as an instructor in military tactics while attending law school at the University. . Covers show edge wear and soiling, and other than the Pershing photo, there is no marks in text, but there is a tear with 1" loss to center of page 258 and pages 177-180 are excised. Binding solid. While an imperfect copy, all the Cather material is present. Book condition Good+. Binding: HB

Quarter-Centennial Number, red and white cloth decorated in gilt, x, pp. illust. ads, 274pp.; xi-xxv, pp. illust. ads, Printed as the year book for 1895, for the University of Nebraska. Ms. Cather has two contributions; the poem "Anacreon" page 222, and the "prize winning" short story "The Fear that Walks by Noonday" (pages 224-231) by Willa Cather and Dorothy Canfield. Ms. Canfield later declared that Ms. Cather was the sole author and that she (Ms. Canfield) had merely offered the idea for the story. Willa Cather appears in a photo on page 83, and as a child in a photo on page 272. Expertly recased.
