Description: - The postcards included in the group are: Postcard, 6-1/4 inches high by 4-2/16 inches wide. [1995]. "The Gotham Book Mart is pleased to announce the December publication of THE FANTOD PACK by Edward Gorey". The postcard bears a black & white illustration by Gorey of a creature riding on a one-wheel cycle. Postcard, 6 inches high by 4-2/16 inches wide. (1996). "EDWARD GOREY A Retrospective Including New Work Now through February 1996 / Gotham Book Mart & Gallery, Inc." The postcard bears a black & white illustration by Gorey titled "Fruitcake". It features a man, woman and girl watching a boy pull a sled with what appears to be a cake, as a wolf-like creature looks on from the side. Postcard, 6 inches high by 4 inches wide. 1997. "THE DEADLY BLOTTER Edward Gorey THOUGHTFUL ALPHABET XVII The Fantod Press 1997." The card features a 2-1/2 inch high black & white illustration by Gorey picturing a pipe-smoking man standing in front of a settee on which several blotters are pictured. Postcard, 3-3/4 inches high by 5-14/16 inches wide. [1997]. On the verso: "A New Edward Gorey book, in time for some special early Christmas shopping." On the recto: "THE HAUNTED TEA-COSY A Dispirited and Distasteful Diversion for Christmas / EDWARD GOREY". The card is titled within banners over a black & white illustration by Gorey featuring a man and woman emerging from an undefined mass. Postcard, 4-5/16 inches high by 6-1/4 inches wide. [1997]. "The Gotham Book Mart is pleased to announce the February publication of THE JUST DESSERT Thoughtful Alphabet XI by Edward Gorey." The black & white illustration by Gorey is titled "Keep laughing mechanically". It features three figures laughing as a pot-bellied creature looks on. Postcard, 4 inches high by 6 inches wide. [2001]. OUR HOLIDAY CURTAIN IS GOING UP ON THE UNKNOWN EDWARD GOREY. An exhibition of works never previously exhibited or published. The works are on loan from the Edward Gorey Estate and private collections." The Gorey black & white illustration features a heavy black curtain going up revealing parts of human figures. "The Just Dessert" postcard has a minor light crease along the top edge, else the postcards are in fine unused condition.

Cards: 4 3/4 inches, [20] loose laminated cards with individual pictorial rectos and uniform patterned versos. Box: 5 inches, pictorial lid, paper over card. Numbered and signed by the artist on the colophon. Fine. First edition of Edward Gorey's pack of twenty divination cards and its accompanying interpretive booklet, numbered 676 of 750 numbered and 26 lettered copies (the latter copies not published for sale). Its creator, Madame Groeda Weyrd ("a nom de guerre merely; her true one is known to few this side of the grave"), was a clairvoyante of Finnish and Egyptian extraction who made her home in the Staten Island portion of Tierra del Fuego; she was long a persona non grata "to many of the rich and famous because of her fearless predictions of disaster."
