Old bookseller ticket located upper left corner front paste down. Interior contents in good condition. Longfellow wrote the first poem titled "Proem." BAL 12088.

Contemporary gift inscription in ink on the front free endpaper, slight foxing, a few tiny tears at the crown, else a fine copy, housed in a custom cloth chemise and slipcase with a red leather spine label stamped in gold. Edited by Longfellow, this anthology opens with his "Proem," later collected in *The Seaside and the Fireside* as "Pegasus in Pound." A bright, handsome copy. *BAL* 12088.
