Description: This is the text block only -- there are no covers or spine on this copy. Marbled paper endpapers and plain brown backing paper on the spine, with only a spot or two where earlier leather still shows. 254 + 31 + 131 pages. The essays Wisdom of the Ancients has its own title page and pagination. The Colours of Good and Evil is paginated separately as well. Despite not having covers, the text block here remains in good condition, corners square and pages clean. The foreedges are dyed red. Cropped a bit close at the top, but never affecting any text & only occasionally the header. Early ownership name on the title page. Measures 4.25 x 6.5 inches. A collection of 63 essays. Bacon lived from 1561-1626. This collection, printed nearly 50 years after hie death, is a testament to the continuing popularity of this views.
