Burnt orange cloth over boards with black title to spine; black debossed decoration to front board. Pages are tanned, but are otherwise clean and unmarked. Text block is tanned. Boards are clean and unmarked with light rubbing to edges, corners and ends of spine; corners and ends of spine bumped; front board slightly bowed. Binding is tight, spine is slightly cocked. Dust jacket has rubbing, chipping and closed tears to edges, corners and ends of spine; open tears to ends of spine particularly to headcap; small dampstain to front cover; light rubbing to portrait at front cover. Dust jacket is covered in a protective mylar jacket.

Description: First edition thus, hardcover in yellow cloth, the book has a mild lean to the binding, moderate bumps to the spine ends and corners with some creasing to the corners of the pages, and slight dulling with some shelf wear to the edges. Overall, this is a solid, bright, Very Good copy in a Near Very Good dust jacket, which has creasing, short tears and small chips to the spine ends and corners, some wear to the edges with a thumb-size chip to the head of the back, rubbing with smudging to the covers, and light sunning to the spine and edges.

Description: First edition thus; 8vo; full-page black and white illustrations throughout, including reproductions of artworks by Kiki and photographs by Man Ray, light dampstaining to gutter, some offsetting to endpapers, bookplate to front pastedown, else unmarked internally; publisher's orange cloth, black lettering to spine, decoration in black to upper cover, hinges starting, light spotting to cloth, corners slightly rubbed, with the original pictorial dustjacket, slightly worn and stained, spine ends chipped with loss, else very good. Translated into English by Samuel Putnam from the original French memoir written by Alice Prin, a French artist and model better known as Kiki, the 'Queen of Montparnasse'. The first English translation by Putnam appeared in 1930, published in Manhattan by Black Manikin Press, but it was immediately banned by the United States government. The book provides a personal account of Kiki's life as a model and her experiences in the art world.
