Description: Book is ex-library with ex-libris at front pastedown, glued over that is the inside front flap of dust-jacket. Inside rear flap of dust-jacket is glued to rear pastedown. Final free endpaper has the top third torn away. Final page is starting to tear up from bottom about two inches Faded, soiled and worn blue boards. Gilt print on cover is basically completely faded. Gilt print along spine is scuffed, but remains clear. Front board is bowed. Extremities are rubbed, occasional dent. Corners are bumped and rubbed through. Numerous small tears and some light fraying at head and tail of spine. Binding is cracking and loosening, but is holding together decently. Markings from previous owner at ffep. Occasional library stamp throughout. Interior is age-toned with signs of foxing and the occasional spot of soiling, text remains clear.

Description: First edition published by John Murray in 1930. A very good or better copy without the dustwrapper. The boards are in excellent shape with only the odd very light mark. The book is square and binding tight. There are no bookplates and no ink. The upper text block has some foxing marks and the first few pages occasionally so. Overall a nice copy and better than is usually found.  Arthur Conan Doyles last published book in his lifetime. It is a collection of essays and articles that had been originally published elsewhere such as The Strand and Daily Express, including an essay on Houdini.
