Well-handled cloth cover with minor wear to crown and base of spine. Ex Libris sticker to FFEP and crease to FEP {at rear}. Hinges cracked between pages xxiii-1 though still intact. Pages mostly clean with mild age discolouration towards page extremities. Missing letter 'T' on page 64, line 8. No dust-wrapper. Description: Octavo (19cm); greyish-green cloth, stamped in dark blue, in natural paper dustwrapper; xxiii,196pp. Boards slightly bowed, with mild soiling along extremities. Dustwrapper tanned, dampstained; small chips and tears along extremities. Textblock comprehensively foxed; bookseller's plate on rear pastedown; printer's error on page 64 marks this as the second printing of first edition (first mass printing). Overall a Very Good, solid copy in somewhat rare dustwrapper. John Middleton Murry (Katherine Mansfield's husband) published this collection of short stories on the late author's behalf. It contains 21 stories (6 finished and 15 unfinished) that Mansfield was writing during/after the production of her most recent book, The Garden Party (1922). While Mansfield had decided on the title for this particular compilation, Murry could only speculate on the stories she intended to feature; at the age of 34, she died suddenly from complications of her tuberculosis.

Mansfield's collection of 21 stories was published after the death of her husband, John Middleton Murray (whose introductory note is included). Among the stories are "The Doll's House," "A Cup of Tea," "The Fly," "The Canary," and "A Married Man's Story."(Kirkpatrick A6a.) Apparently, one of only 25 copies of the first printing. Quite scarce in dust jacket. Near Fine in slate-gray cloth ruled and stamped in blue; in gray dust wrapper printed and ruled in blue which is missing a 1 3/4"x 1/2" piece at the bottom of the spine; several pieces of scotch tape have been applied to the verso of the d/w. Darkening to the spine.

First published June, 1923 appears to the copyright page, and the ' t' is absent from the first line of the first word on line eight of page 64. A near fine example of the book with some toning to the end papers. The uncommon dust jacket is very good with rubbing to the forward base of the lower spine. Light chipping to the spine base and also the head; the chip to the head extends around the top of the front panel for about an inch and a half. ( less than one quarter inch deep. )
