Dorothy L. Sayers; Robert Eustace. The Documents in the Case. Ernest Benn, London, 1930.

Price: US$635.22 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: A smart first edition copy of this early Sayers novel, written with Robert Eustace. The first edition of the work. Lacking the scarce original dust wrapper. The Documents in the Case is the only one of Sayers' twelve major crime novels not to feature her protagonist Lord Peter Wimsey, however it does feature the secondary character, forensic analyst Sir James Lubbock. The epistolary novel tells the story of a young man trying to get justice for his father. Written with Robert Eustace, a penname for Dr Eustace Barton, an author known for his medical-crime novels. In the original back cloth binding. Rebacked with spine laid down. Externally smart with rubbing to the boards. Slight bumping to the extremities. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with the odd spot, heavier to the first and last few pages. Marginal age toning due to paper used. Very Good

Sayers, Dorothy L., & Eustace, Robert. The Documents in the Case. Ernest Benn, London, 1930.

Price: US$3144.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: HARDBACK - A very good book with a neat name present to the front end-paper. Internally, the pages are clean with the odd light foxing mark to the inner text as well as to the page block. Light off-setting to the end-papers, but overall a nice clean book with bright boards with just a little pushing to the spine tips. The dust wrapper is in near very good condition with chipping to the spine tips, also with toning to the spine. There is chipping to the top corners of the front and rear panels, but with no other loss. A spine hinge has weakened over time, with a previous owner having placed a very fine strip of filmoplast tape to the reverse of the dust wrapper. This has been done to a very high standard, and has prevented the hinge from weakening any further. A very good copy in its original dust wrapper, and a Haycroft Queen Cornertstone title.

SAYERS, DOROTHY L. AND ROBERT EUSTACE.. THE DOCUMENTS IN THE CASE.. Ernest Benn Limited, [1930]., London, 1930.

Price: US$10000.00 + shipping

Description: First edition. An exceptionally fine, bright, tight copy in a fine example of this usually fragile dust jacket, Housed in a quarter cloth and marbled paper clamshell case with titles stamped in gold gilt on the spine. A man dies due to fungi poisoning, or so it seems, because due to some irregularities in some of the dead man's correspondence, the case was re-opened. The second examination of the body was confusing because if the man had been murdered the method of poisoning was one of the most ingenious in the history of murder. At the same time the method the investigators decide upon to determine whether the death was accidental or the result of foul play is equally ingenious. A Haycraft/Queen Cornerstone mystery title and an exceptional copy of an elusive title.By far the best copy we've ever seen or handled.
