Description: The First American Edition with no further printings mentioned. In black cloth with red type to cover and spine and 'The London Publishers' to base of spine, perhaps to avoid the censors. Corners softened and frayed with some material loss. Some fraying across to of front board with another spot to top of rear board. Spine ends frayed as well with nicks/short tears and a few tiny spots of material loss, especially at head. Small puncture to rear spine crease. Some previous staining to top of front board near spine and a few stray marks to same. Faint markings to rear board. Pages lightly tanned with some very pale foxing to front page ends(with small moisture stain) and endpapers. Possible repair to front hinge at title page. Rear hinge split at endpapers with mull showing, but still holiding. 1st Printing
