Description: An exceptionally handsome copy of the first book (though published last) in what would become known as Cooper's "Leather-Stocking Tales" featuring Nattie Bumpo & the Iroquois. From 1925, it is one of a lovely series of classic books for young readers illustrated by famous artists of the day (here, N. C. Wyeth), each with a colorful paper pastedown to the front board. These have recently been reissued, making these original editions more highly collectible, particularly when they contain all their color plates, like this one! Besides the full-color title page, there are 9 other full-page, full-color plates throughout the 462 pages of text, all present & virtually flawless (save for a whisper of foxing on 1 plate only). Hardcover small 4to (7" x 9.5") book has black cloth-covered boards with front paper pastedown. Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally clean & bright, binding straight & strong, hinges secure, pages creamy white. NO writing/underlining/highlighting; not ex-lib. Only flaws are light bumping to corners & spine tips & wear along the fore edge side of the front pastedown. There is also a residue of clear tape right in the center of the Deerslayer's chest.
