FOR centuries THE DECAMERON has stood as the classic example of ribaldry, impregnable to the varying tastes and taboos of time and tongue. In these marvelous tales the lusty humor is always controlled by a keen sense of social satire, and the picture of the times presented is wonderful reporting of a fascinating era. To illustrate these stories has always been a challenge to artists. Rockwell Kent, one of the acknowledged truly great American artists, has brought to the task a sincere enthusiasm for the subject as well as his characteristic attention to detail. As a result his drawings amplify and illuminate the text to singular advantage. The pictures themselves are examples of the finest of the artist's unexcelled draftsmanship, but in their artistic perfection none of the spirit and flavor of this classic literary entertainment is lost. This we sincerely believe to be the most satisfying edition of THE DECAMERON in the English language.
