BALLARD, J. G.. The Crystal World.. London: Jonathan Cape, 1966, 1966.

Price: US$644.13 + shipping

Description: First edition, first impression, of this novel considerably expanded from a two-part serial of the same name which appeared in the magazine New Worlds in 1964. The book is considered "the most fantastic of Ballard's environmental apocalypses. It suggests the possibility of living plants and animals being transformed into a mineral-like substance as well as the possibility of the distortion of time. it is also one of Ballard's most insightful climate-disruption novels in that it directly links climate disruption to the spread of disease, a concern of many scientists studying the possible effects of climate change" (Holte, p. 52). James Craig Holte, Climate Change in Popular Culture, 2022. Octavo. Original white boards, spine lettered in gilt, top edge pink. With the pictorial dust jacket reproducing a painting by Max Ernst. Jacket lightly rubbed, spine panel a little faded, nick at head, otherwise bright, unclipped: a fine copy in very good jacket.
