The true first edition was published in 1822, with subsequent editions in 1823 and 1856. Hailed as a monumental and early drug memoir, De Quincey details his addiction to laudanum (opium mixed with alcohol) and the visions he saw while taking the drug. A beautiful copy of the Bodley Head edition, with captivating drawings by Ms. Woolf. A Near Fine book with the green topstain faded away, dust jacket is very near Fine with just a bit of edge wear.
