Description: Octavo, 2 volumes. 208pp., pp. 209-4465pp., illustrated. A crisp, clean, unread set, with nearly all pages unopened. Some foxing to the frontispiece and opposite leaf in volume I, the crowns worn on both volumes, but otherwise a sharp set; overall very good. Stately gentleman's bookplate on the front paste-down of each volume. This is number 140 of 500 limited sets. This particular example includes a presumably very scarce [4]pp. promotional pamphlet regarding the set. The pamphlet notes Lowell's Introduction as the primary new feature of this oft-reprinted text, and also provides a list of illustrations, some more promotional language, and a sample page, which invludes an inset engraving of a trout. The pamphlet is curled, toned, and chipped along the edges, with an old horizontal fold; in good condition only. OCLC locates no copies of the promotional pamphlet, either as a separately listed holding, or as part of a book holding, at least as far as we can tell. Coigney 144 (also not acknowledging the existence of the pamphlet). Not a fine set, but rather nice, and quite appealing with the bonus pamphlet.
