They are marked, worn, scuffed, rubbed all about. They are placid and secure and sure. The pages are untrimmed, they are also a little grubby from shelving. The contents are contented. There are some sporadic splashes of age-related foxing about. A previous owner signature on the opp-dedication page. The book is most wonderfully, patiently and finely illustrated by Edmund New. Otherwise a very good copy of an imposing book.

A small quarto measuring 9 1/2" by 7" with the cloth on the spine slightly tanned and light soiling to the boards. There is a dated (1947) gift inscription on the front paste down and with a very faint dampness stain to the lower quarter of the rear 20 pages in the book. Without a dust jacket. Edited with an introduction by Richard Le Gallienne and Illustrated by Edmund H. New. 428 pages followed by "The Angler's Calendar" and four pages of ads by the publisher. Offsetting to the end papers. Internally firmly bound with pages roughly cut, clean and bright. Contemporary ink inscription to the verso of the front free end paper. Age toning to the top edge. Spine a touch sunned and start of slight foxing, tiny stain to prelims, else Fine. Housed in light green cloth slipcase, slightly soiled and stained. The classic fishing book handsomely bound by Kiernan (1922-1967). He died at age 45, very well-esteemed in the trade but obscure; his bindings are very rare. The text taken from the fifth edition, the last edition with Walton's own revisions.
