Description: 286pp. Octavo [19.5 cm] Original green cloth with a gilt stamped title on the spine. Very good. The covers are mildly stained along the joints. The rear cover has a two tiny dark stains, and a jagged 4 inch long, light, jagged scratch mark. The spine is sunned. There is a small soiled scuff mark on the bottom edge of the text block. The endsheets are darkened, and there is a contemporary gift inscription on the front free endsheet. Treverton 436, Hagemann 123, Recknagel 447, Howard 5c. Most of B. Traven's work was originally published in Germany. His first book was The Death Ship.

Description: Hard cover in dust jacket. Very scarce 1st edition, later issue with red cloth boards. The Book is very good with large streak of medium dark soiling to front board, very light shelf wear to edges of boards, corners and edges of pages, a bit dusty, paper aging with light yellowing to pages and early foxing to endpapers, otherwise the book is very fine with very light use and age, clean and tight interior. The Jacket is good + with piece missing from top of spine, large tear to front cover, heavy splitting to front fold, light splitting to back fold, shelf wear to edges with a few small chips missing, price clipped, a bit dirty, shows some aging, otherwise fine with excellent color, protected by mylar.

Description: First American Edition (1938.) Hardcover with dust jacket. 8vo with 286 pages. This was Carl Van Vechten's copy with his large bookplate (3 1/2" by 5") on front paste down. Old newspaper clippings are in a separate Savoy Hotel air mail envelope. The book is in good condition with discoloration in spine gutters. Interior is clean and tight. The dust jacket is in good condition with some shelf wear, one 1 3/4" vertical tear along bottom of spine and rubbing to edges. Still a nice copy.
