NORDHOFF, Charles & HALL, James Norman.. The Hurricane.. Boston, Little, Brown, and Company 1936., 1936.

Price: US$75.00 + shipping

Description: First edition. Hardcover. A couple tiny ownership name stamps on the fixed endpapers, otherwise fine in very good dustjacket with a few tiny professionally closed tears and some slight (inevitable) fading of the spine background which has a small droplet mark (price intact, $2.50). A romantic adventure story set against the simple life on a South Pacific island is disrupted by a vindictive governor as well as a hurricane, a novel by the authors of "The Bounty" trilogy, in a splendid jacket illustrated by N.C. Wyeth. A book which has been filmed twice: in 1937 with a stellar cast, including Dorothy Lamour, Jon Hall, C. Aubrey Smith, Mary Astor, Raymond Massey, John Carradine and others. Halliwell's Film Guide notes that the 1979 remake (even with a fine cast) lacks the style, the innocence and even the technical splendour of the original.
