Price: US$276.75 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: Vintage Hardcover with original DJ, Stated First Printing McClure Press. Verona, Virginia. 174 pages. Very Good+, in a Good+ DJ. Just a touch of shelf/edge wear to light blue cloth boards with white titles - one corner bumped. Minor shelf/edge wear with moderate foxing to original unclipped DJ (common for this book) - now in mylar. Rear panel of DJ at bottom has a damp stain. The book was not affected and is undamaged. No previous owner markings - all pages are clean. Textblock edges have a few very small dark stains that penetrated to a few pages about 1/4 inch in but is nowhere near the text. The Boo was Pat Conroy?s first book. It was self-published by Pat in 1969, following his graduation from The Citadel. The book was at first banned by the school but the ban has long since been lifted. The original preface read: The book, in essence, is the love affair of Courvoisie (The Boo) for the cadets and his school. The stories within the book were not written maliciously or callously; they were written to show an inside view of the long gray line, an intimate view not often afforded to the general public. Proceeds for the book will go to a gift fund honoring Citadel graduates killed in Vietnam. A very handsome True First Edition in a flawed but intact DJ. LOC SSS-05

Description: Book is a Stated "First Printing" and is tight and square with tanning to the front and back paste downs. There is also tanning to the ffep and fretting to the rfep. The page block is lovely with generalized tanning as well, obviously due to age. The mylar protected DJ is price-intact ($4.50) and has generalized edge wear with multiple small tears. There is smudging and generalized discoloration, "age toning" to the Dj including the front and back panels and the front and rear flaps. Book was Signed boldly by the author on the title-page at an event I attended in St. Paul, MN on 11/12/13. I will enclose the ticket from the event along with a brochure about the event. Mr. Conroy told me there were ONLY 1500 first printings printed. WOW!!
