Description: True first British printing of this edition, 1950. First thus. With original unclipped jacket (12s 6d). Originally published in the UK in 1922 by Collins this is a re-issue from 1950. Jacket has faults - namely edge/shelf wear, few tears, a little patchy loss (mainly to head/tail of spine and to corners), creasing/rubbing to edges, patchy browning (including to spine), few marks, pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine, mild foxing, pushing/bumping to corners, foxing/browning/few small marks to reverse (white side), creasing/rubbing/browning/minor foxing to front/back inner flaps and is in only fair condition. Boards are very good (having been well protected by the jacket) with a hint of pushing/bumping to corners, the odd small bump/rub to edges, light crease to spine (book has been read), the odd very small mark and a little pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Top edge of pages have the odd very small mark/spots of foxing. Pages bit tanned. Small tear/chip to top edge of a couple of pages. Odd small mark/spot of foxing/minor scratch to page edges and bottoms. End-papers tanned. Small bookseller's sticker inside front board. Occasional small mark/spot of foxing to pages. No other faults. All books described honestly and accurately. Paypal accepted.

Description: First edition thus (by this publisher). Hardcover. Edges slightly foxed, a little flap offsetting on the endpapers, a bookshop label on the front fixed endpaper, otherwise very good in very good price-clipped dustjacket with some very tiny professionally closed tears. An attractive, well-bound edition of the author's second novel (originally published in 1922 by Scribner's in the US and Collins in the UK), this edition including a nicely designed period jacket accredited to Peter Curl. An early hardcover edition (even though 28 years after the initial publication), becoming scarce, and an attractive and economical alternative to the seriously expensive first editions.
