Description: Original pictorial boards have wear to extremities, bumped corners, slight fading to rear board, but overall still bright and in very good condition. Internally in wonderful condition with no marks or browning. Engraved and printed in colours by Edmund Evans. Full of wonderful illustrations in addition to the sheet music to a host of children's favourite nursery rhymes. No Date. Presumed First Edition. 10 Full page colour illustrations and intricate border designs that are truly beautiful. Walter Crane was an artist, designer, socialist, interior decorator and leading member of the Arts & Craft movement. However his reputation has always rested secure and illustrious on his illustrated Toy books, nursery titles and wallpaper. Much of his work being dedicated to children.

Octavo, one quarter maroon cloth over red illustrated paper boards, off-white and brown illustrated dust jacket, color frontispiece, sheet music and color illustrations throughout. Children's book with 'old rhymes' and 'music by the earliest masters,' 'engraved and printed in colours by Edmund Evans;' an example of the 'toy books' that were popular in the latter half of the nineteenth century. Near Fine, in Very Good dust jacket, a few small chips and tears, small dampstain at spine edge.
