Complete with 29 illustrated plates. Child's signature front end paper, pencil marks throughout. Text was written by Frank L. Baum, illustrated by Harry Kennedy and colored by Charles J. Costello. This is one of two alphabet books written by Frank Baum, before he published the Wizard of Oz.

Blue cloth backed color pictorial paper covered boards with very minor wear to the extremities and minor abrasions to front and back covers for what is an amazingly nice copy of the book. Plain endpapers with a small area of discoloration on both free endpapers. [30] leaves printed rectos only. A children's alphabet, told in verse, based on all things Army, e.g., A: represents the Army, B: represents the Bayonet, C: represents the tin Canteen, etc.; color title-page drawing and twenty-eight full page color drawings by Kennedy illustrate Baum's Army-centric rhymes; leaf [30] states, "This book was illumined and hand lettered by Charles J. Costello"; internally the book is fine. The condition of the book is NEAR FINE. SCARCE; especially in such nice condition.
