Description: The Nonesuch Press, London. Different volumes are from 1924, 1925, 1926 and 1927. Five hardcover volumes. Tan boards with gold gilt decoration. Title, year of publication, and decorations in gold gilt on the spine. Elaborately illustrated title pages and illustrations throughout. Loose tissue laying over several of the illustrated pages. The five volumes are: The Bible, Genesis to Ruth. 1925, 378 pages. Spine has a 6 inch tear on its lower half, and a 2 ½ cm. tear on its crown. Some rubbing and bumping on the spine, edges, and corners. Some rubbing on the boards as well. There are some tape remnants on the front free endpaper, and part of the first layer of paper is torn off that page as well. The tape marks are visible on the other side of the page. All pages are lightly toned. Strong and tight binding. No writing or marks. Beautiful black and white illustrations throughout. The Bible, Samuel to Psalms 1925, 418 pages. Spine has a 2 cm tear at its crown. Crown/foot have some bumps and small tears, as well. Corners and edges have some slight bumps. Light rubbing on the boards. All the pages are lightly toned. The binding is strong and tight, and the pages are free of marks and writing. Beautifully illustrated. The Bible, Proverbs to Malachi. 1926, 327 pages. Crown of the spine is torn by 2 cm and 1 cm on its side, crown and foot both have bumping. Corners and edges have bumping as well. Light rubbing on the boards. Pages are lightly toned. The binding is tight and strong, and the pages are free of marks and writing. As with the other copies, this book has beautiful illustrations throughout. The Bible, The New Testament - 1927, 309 pages. Bumping along the edges, corners, crown and foot of the spine. Spine has 7 inch and 7 ½ inch tears at its top. Boards have some rubbing and the front has a small scratch mark. Pages are lightly toned. The binding of this copy is tight and strong, and the pages are clean and unmarked. The Apocrypha - 1924, 328 pages. 3 cm tear at the crown of the spine. Bumping around the crown/foot, edges, and corners. 1 cm snag on the front board. Boards are slightly loose, stitching shows somewhat. The pages all are lightly toned, but free of marks and writing. A very pretty copy. These lovely books were printed by Frederick Hall at Oxford. The copperplates were designed and engraved by Stephen Gooden, and the typography was arranged by Francis Meynell. This complete set is part of the limited edition printing, with only 1000 copies printed on Japon Vellum and 75 copies on Arnold unbleached rag paper.

Cream paper-covered boards, blocked in gold with Granjon type ornaments and rules; spine titles gilt. Boards just a little curved. A very good to fine set.
