Price: US$450.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: xviii, 324 p. 23 cm. 53 b&w illustrations. Bound in quarter leather with marbled paper boards. A little foxing to title page and frontispiece tissue guard. Discoloured lower corner pages 22-23 and tear at bottom of 205. The memoirs of a world-record-holding elephant hunter. Besides describing the hunt, Sutherland meets man-eating lions, snakes, hippos, leopards, African natives, slave girls, etc. The author does not recommend elephant meat, being "coarse-fibred and without any flavour" but finds the trunk "by far the most palatable portion of the elephant." This window into a vanished age is not for the squeamish or politically correct.
