Dickens, Charles -Illustrated by George Cruikshank. The Adventures of Oliver Twist. Chapman and Hall, Lon, 1895.

Price: US$425.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: Limited edition. VG/G condition. Limited to 500 copies for England and America. With 26 watercolor drawings by Cruikshank and 506 pages of text. The previous owner purchased this book in 1974, the original catalog description is laid in. "Original printed boards, quarter brown morocco gilt, edges untrimmed, head and tail of spine very slightly rubbed, otherwise a fine copy in a lightly torn dustwrapper." The spine ends and corners are rubbed and bumped, with a little loss to the spine heel. That is the main difference now, the gilt is bright, the contents are in great shape, and overall the book is a nice copy well protected by the dust wrapper. The jacket is actually two layers thick. The normal paper jacket found on modern editions, is here fixed onto a mesh paper backing, which is stronger that the paper itself. The jacket in that respect is almost complete, and sits well on the book. However the paper itself is lacking about 25% including almost all of the spine. The rear panel has some loss and the front panel is almost complete. Anyway a nice book, likely very seldom found in it's jacket, in any condition.
