Spine repaired at some distant time, spine quite darkened, bumped, a bit grubby, edgeworn with boards showing through at lower corners, lightly frayed at spine extremities, hinges starting to crack, foxed, age-toned upper edge. The book has been often read, with finger-marks, occasional spotting, 2cm closed tear to fore edge of pp7/8. Contents clear and legible. B&w plate (from another book?) laid in. Description: First edition. Original blue cloth titled in gilt, with blind design to upper cover. Author's presentation copy, inscribed on the half title to fellow writer Urbain Mengin, "To Urbain Mengin his affectionate old friend Henry James" A very good copy, with some darkening to the spine and a mark at its head. Urbain Mengin (1864-1955), French professor and writer, became a close friend of James, maintaining an active correspondence between 1887 and 1909. The pair and mutual friend, Paul Bourget, met in Paris and London to discuss literature. Terminations is a collection of four stories exploring his fascination with the supernatural - The Death of the Lion, The Coxon Fund, The Middle Years, and The Altar of the Dead.
