MALANGA, Gerard. (David Ignatow). Ten Years After. Black Sparrow Press, Santa Barbara, 1977.

Price: US$500.00 + shipping

Condition: Fine

Description: First edition, trade issue. Poet David Ignatow's copy with a printed bookplate inside the front cover. One leaf with a corner crease and a tiny bit of wear, about fine. With a full-page Inscription to Ignatow, including a 10-line quote from Goethe: "25.ix.91 'not everything that history offers us has actually happened. And what has actually happened has not happened the way it is presented (.)' - Goethe. Dear David, the inverse of that: myth is when the truth perpetuates itself beyond its own time-frame. Poems are fixed in time to those feelings when they were written. Those feelings come alive in the reader. X Gerard." And with Gerard Malanga's rubberstamps on the title page: "Photo c. by Gerard Malanga," and "Mythic Warrior." Melanga wrote an elegiac poem for Ignatow titled "David Ignatow, 1914-1997," that was published in *Poetry* in March 2017. The final lines are: "Where art though now, dear David? / Where is the love for my desperation / that I may fight your fears?" A lovely association and inscription.
