In the Room of the Seven Doors, Carson Napier faced the choice of his life. Six doors led to terrible deaths - the seventh was the door of life. But for him, this door too would lead only to the new dangers of a planet whose beasts were more frightful than those of his native Earth. But Carson sought the rescue of the planet's fairest princess, and even though he stepped from one danger to meet another, he was determined to make good an Earthman's pledge. LOST ON VENUS is an Edgar Rice Burroughs adventure in the colorful and exciting tradition of his Tarzan and Martian novels. "

Clumsy but oddly effective clear tape repair down entire spine and an inch into front and back boards with additional tape repair over broken hinges, apparently re-attaching both. Mesh still exposed between front free endpaper, which turns oddly from the stiff tape on recto, and title page. Boards otherwise edgeworn with bumps at corners, heavy scuffing to spine ends, and some fading and soiling to back. Pages toned and brittle, with shallow chipping and a few tears along edges -- mostly to initial and terminal pages, with no loss to text. Pages unmarked. A rough but serviceable copy. Burroughs, Edgar Rice. Tarzan's Quest [its first appearance, as "Tarzan and the Immortal Men," in six consecutive issues of The Blue Book Magazine (October 1935 - March 1936)]. The McCall Company 1935-1936, New York, 1935.

Price: US$500.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: [a solid Very Good on average (several issues would individually grade Near Fine), with the only serious condition problems being some soiling and surface damage along the spine and lower rear cover of the December 1935 issue, and a couple of surface scrapes/blemishes on the front cover of the November 1935 issue]. These six issues of The Blue Book Magazine contain the first appearance of Burroughs's "Tarzan and the Immortal Men," published in hardcover and subsequently known as "Tarzan's Quest," presented in monthly installments from October 1935 (Vol. 61, No. 6) through March 1936 (Vol. 62, No. 5). The text illustrations for the Burroughs novel are by Frank Hoban, although the one cover (for the opening installment) that depicts Tarzan himself was painted by the magazine's regular cover illustrator at that time, Herbert Morton Stoops. This presents a rare opportunity to examine this "Tarzan" adventure in its original context, as each issue is complete with the many other stories and features for which this popular magazine was known.
