TROLLOPE, Anthony. Tales of All Countries. Second Series. Chapman & Hall, London, 1863.

Price: US$220.00 + shipping

Description: Octavo (19cm); later issue binding of ca. 1880s maroon cloth embossed in gilt, brown glazed endpapers; [4],371pp. Cloth extremities rather rubbed with some very short splitting to upper cover spine- and fore-edge, spine gilt rather dulled; a chunk of the front free endpaper has been torn away, else contents appear near fine. Good or better overall. From the library of the Trollope collecter Roger Dow with his mid-20th-century engraved bookplate to front pastedown. SADLEIR 16: "The cloth used.and the style of the blocking are of comparatively late date (probably the 'eighties), and I am inclined to deduce from the fact that the spines are lettered from type and without the publishers' imprint, that a residue of first edition sheets was discovered by the publishers and sold by them to some wholesaler who put on their own cheap quality binding and sold the books at a low price."
