Description: Large 8vo. 9.25 x 6.5 inches. xii + 304 pp. Bound in original green cloth, gilt, front boards with gilt block. Gilt titles a little faded and extremities with edge wear. Traces of foxing on preliminaries, but otherwise a very good clean copy. Illustrated by 12 colour plates, including frontispiece, whole page black and white plates numbered in text and by numerous chapter heading and tailpiece vignettes. The siblings, Charles and Mary Lamb first published their retold Tales from Shakespeare for children in 1807. It includes twenty plays, omitting all the history and Roman plays and removing all subplots and sexual references.
