Description: First Edition. Hardback. 4to. pp 37. Original publishers quarter red leather over moire silk cloth lettered gilt on spine. One hundred copies of this book were printed, this being no. 51. The text, consisting of quotations taken by the Artist from Heminge and Condell's first folio edition. (1623), has been illustrated with wood engravings and the type set in the Monotype Plantin series 110. Signed by Jane Lydbury and Sir Hugh Casson. Neat note on front endpaper reads, "Ex-libris Samuel Wanamaker", presumably in his hand. Samuel Wanamaker, CBE (1919Ð1993) was an American actor and director. He is credited as the person most responsible for saving The Rose Theatre, which led to the modern recreation of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London, where he is commemorated in the name of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, the site's second theatre.
