This American edition is the true first printing, issued before the British edition. "Maddox" is misspelled in the dedication, corrected in the later British version. Not often found clean or in good shape, this copy is unusually well-conditioned, with no major flaws or marks, showing only occasional, brief, minor signs of use or age. The boards are covered in gray paper, which is remarkably free of the soiling generally found on this volume. The spine and the corner tips are in ivory Japanese vellum, with clean, bright embossed gilt lettering on the spine. Several of the pages (unopened) at the edges, as originally issued by the publisher. The head of the spine is worn a tad. missing a fraction of about an of the spine vellum. Note only known signed copy by the author by Ez with his signature logo Ez on the title page in bold ink, rare thus. Early signed Pounds are rare, as it was the case that Pound retreated in later life and was reluctant to sign his earlier books, which are rare in themselves. lovely overall
