Price: US$45.00 + shipping

Condition: Good

Description: The covers have overall rubbing, some light to moderate soiling, corners and spine ends bumped and worn a bit, some spots on the spine edges that looks like white paint. The gilt on cover and spine is primarily intact, I would say about 85%. The right foredge has some evidence of past dampstain that's done some very light wrinkling, does not appear inside at all. Previous owner name and city appears on the front pastedown near the top left. I found some occasional light soiling spots on some pages, like someone used dirty fingers here and there. No other markings in the book though. This book has 290 pages, then a full page ad, then 2 blank leaves. Tissue remains intact on frontispiece. Publication date is February, 1913. I believe this is second state.

"Early in "the unluckiest year of his life" (1913) , during which his dream home in California’s Sonoma Valley burnt down, Jack London, aged thirty-seven, published the short-story collection The Night-Born (Labor, 329). The ten tales in it range from negligible potboilers to such gems as the evocative sketch of a soldier’s life "War", and the suspenseful fight story "The Mexican", set during the Mexican Revolution (c. 1910–1920) and embodying London’s "finest allegory of the revolutionary spirit" (Labor, Leitz, Shepard, xxix)."
