Contents tight with front back marbled endpaper present. 636 page contents are quite clean with no foxing. Page 98/99 contains the poem A Visit From St. Nicholas The Night Before Christmas by Clement Moore. This was the first printing that listed his name as author. There is also a 2 issue article on the Mammoth Cave in Kentucky with a engraving of the cave. Worthy of being rebound. very scarce

In this anthology, it is credited to Moore, although there has been minor controversy and a weak case put forward questioning his authorship. Publisher's decorated cloth; all edges gilt; library bookplate; some spotting and wear; minor foxing; a good to very good copy. The poem has of course, become most familiar by its opening line, 'Twas the night before Christmas.' All books described as first editions are first printings unless otherwise noted.
