Description: Softcover in original printed orange/salmon colored wraps. Folio: each of the sections measures 11.5 x 15.5 inches. There were originally sold by subscription only. The first issue advertises on the back that the complete works will "be completed in about Forty-eight Parts, at fifty cents each." Each of the parts is still bound in its original paper wraps. Each has 32 pages, and the majority of them are uncut/unopened. Each also contains a very nice engraving to accompany the plays in that section. The first part has an engraved title page and an additional engraving of Stratford. Part one contains Two Gentlemen. Part two has Love's Labours. Part three has most of Merry Wives. Part four has the rest of Merry Wives and Comedy of Errors. Part six is Midsummer. PART 7 IS MISSING. and it continued through Part 50. There is a notice from the publisher attached to the front of Part 50 with advertisement for a Book Binder who can bind the 50 parts into a two volume set. Also included here are the 6 parts of Knight's Biography of Shakspere, done in the same format with engraving in each. We have seen this set referred to as the Imperial Edition, but those words do not appear here on the original subscription pages. The set here weights almost 26 lbs and so it will be expensive to ship - but we will ask for only the cost of the stamps. Please email with questions or to request photos.
