Cover shows some wear with small piece missing on spine; bumped corners; fading. Top page edges appear to have been gold gilt--some of this is faded/missing.Both front and back end papers tearing along spine; have browned. Front end piece has a small dot that appears to be ink that is on the front piece, ffep (both front and back). Pages in the book show yellowing and some dirtiness. A good copy. 348pps. Charles Dana Gibson (1867?1944) was an American illustrator. He was best known for his creation of the Gibson Girl, an iconic representation of the beautiful and independent Euro-American woman at the turn of the 20th century. His wife, Irene Langhorne, and her four sisters inspired his images. He published his illustrations in Life magazine and other major national publications for more than 30 years, becoming editor in 1918 and later owner of the general interest magazine. Peddling his pen-and-ink sketches, Gibson sold his first work in 1886 to Life magazine Approximately 200 b&w plates. 200 pages.
