Pages have extensive age spotting and discoloration. Pages are tight. Front cover is completely detached but present. Leather covered boards are badly discolored, scuffed, and flaking off. Volume I only.

Description: Volume I of II. A Fair copy in full brown leather chipped at the spine tips. The cover hinges are quite worn but holding (and now protected with a mylar jacket). The text block binding is tight. The paper has tanned, but the text is unmarked and legible throughout. A sound reading/reference copy of this illustrated medical guide, suitable for rebinding if so desired.

Description: Full calf bindings with red labels to spine ,gilt lettering. Calf is worn, bumped 1/2" crack to front hinge of vol one. Both volumes have similar wera to boards and spine. Normal wear for a book of this age. Bound between the front board and front end paper is a 4 page catalogue advertising the medical, botanical and chemical books for sale by R.P.& C. Williams, Boston ( July,1816). The texts of both volumes are very good with 7 full plates in vol.1 and 13 plates at the end of vol.2. Both volumes have numerous drawing throughout the text.Charles Bell created controversy, but was considered to be a foremost physician and scientist. His book/Essay "An Idea of a New Anatomy of the Brain" is the first clinical neurology book. Bell's Palsey and other facial conditions are named after him.
