Written by Thomas Stearns Eliot, a poet, essayist, publisher, playwright, literary critic, and editor. Considered one of the 20th century's major poets and a central figure in Modernist poetry. Fragment of Burnt Norton to rear endpaper. In the original blue paper covered board binding. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and the odd mark to the board. Internally, firmly bound. Inside front cover is a most discrete owner's signature and the date 24/xii/32, and 31 clean pages. Unclipped dust jacket, price 2s. 6d. net, is in protective sleeve with very mild edge wear including small tears at each spine end, and some mild soiling, but still good to very good. Published in 1932 this 1st edition volume is in very good condition.

Description: a pretty copy in the original light blue cloth with red lettered spine in the original blue and yellow dust jacket not price clipped, original price was 2 shillings 6 pence. about a dollar. the flaw is a old tidal mark inside the book and an old ownership embossure now faint of Robert Thornton of Grosse Pointe Michigan. a very nice rare dust jacket. full title being Sweeney Agonistes: Fragments of an Aristophanic Melodrama. Most important, TS Eliot signed this copy when he came to St. Louis in the late 1950's to visit his grandfather's school Mary Institute to give a lecture, Charles Greenleaf Eliot founded the school ca 1865 and it moved to St. Louis county on Warson Road, where the owner of this book, my step father, David Wilson Carter lived, he owned this book and had an extensive library of American poetry. Eliot signed this book for him. I inherited his library when he passed away in 1971.
