Description: Fine, clean, tight, square and bright copy bound in black boards with gilt title on spine. No discernible flaws. Dust jacket is unclipped, protected in removable mylar, with soft wrinkles at head and foot of spine and upper forecorners. In 1765 Harunobu was the innovator who brought full color to Japanese woodblock printing, using multiple blocks and transparent inks to attain polychrome brilliance. Hillier's essay places the artist in the continuum of the developing Ukiyo-e school. 224 pages includes bibliography, glossary, 10 color and 125 B&W plates.
