Description: Octavo, 7.7 in. x 5.2 in., pp. 344. Red cloth boards with black title and bold poison design to front and spine. Light shelfwear to top and bottom of spine; sunning to spine. Top front corner lightly nudged. Creasing to top corners of pp. 1-18 and 302-312. Between 1923 and 1939 Dorothy Sayers (1893-1957) wrote ten novels featuring the upper-class amateur sleuth Lord Peter Wimsey. In 1930, in Strong Poison, she introduced a leading female character, Harriet Vane, the object of Wimsey's love. Harriet appears sporadically in future novels, resisting Lord Peter's proposals of marriage until Gaudy Night in 1935, six novels later.

Description: About Very Good in a Good jacket, unclipped ($2.00), generally toned and rubbed, tape repairs at the corners and edges. Red cloth, a strip of staining at the bottom edge, with black ink lettering and designs on the spine and front board. Square and firmly bound, lightly foxed at the top edge, synopsis taped-in on the front endpaper, former owner's name on the half-title. The fifth Lord Peter Wimsey novel and the first to feature Harriet Vane. Scarce in any jacket.

Description: First edition, first printing. Bound in publisher's red cloth with vivid black stamping. Near Fine with cloth lightly scuffed at the rear and lightly spine faded, bumped corners, toned pages. In a Very Good dust jacket with price intact, with small rubber stamp to front flap, fading to spine, light edge wear with a thumbnail sized chip to the bottom edge of the rear panel. A lovely copy of this Lord Peter mystery, quite scarce in the original jacket.
