Description: This hardcover book, published in 1929, is marked a Limited First Edition. It is number 289 of 925 copies and is signed by both the author, Carl Sandburg, and the subject, Edward Steichen. It is in Near Fine condition. The cover has very light wear to the corners and edges. There is no dust jacket. The pages are all clean as a whistle. No foxing and no markings, except for the signatures and the reverse of Sandburg's signature in a light shadow on the facing page after the book was closed before the ink was totally dry. The spine is strong and tight. See the pictures of this outstanding volume. The book comes from a smoke free home. This copy additionally inscribed by Sandburg on the front fly leaf "Dear Alan - wishing you good traveling herein = Carl" A fine bright copy in black cloth. Its more than possible that Alan was the Rev.Alan Jenkins (1903-1971) who was a member of the Amherst College Class of 1924 later the pastor of the First Congregational Church Galesburg Ill (1936 and Sandburg's home town). He wrote on Sandburg and formed a friendship, serving in the board of directors of the Carl Sandburg Association. His papers are at Amherst.
