Description: Dark green cloth over boards, title and decorations stamped in black and gilt onto upper board and spine, 8vo (7-1/2 inches tall), pp. 310, (16) ads, top edge gilt. Volume with hinges cracked, light rubbing to corners and spine ends, front fly wanting, some ad leaves still unopened. Bound from the American sheets, but with the prefatory poem that begins "Let us now praise famous men", bound in following the contents and list of illustration pages, whereas both the American and English editions have the poem bound in before. Description: FIRST CANADIAN EDITION. Green embossed boards with gilt lettering on front board and spine. Gilt top edge of pages. Black outline of ship at sea on front board and spine. Spine shows shelf wear at top and bottom. The corners are bumped and starting to fray. There is a 1/4 inch cloth tear with fraying at the top of the rear board. The rear hinge is torn but the webbing is intact, otherwise the book is in Good condition. Previous owner's label in upper right hand corner of first free page. Illustrated. 310 pages plus 15 pages of advertisements of which two pages are not cut open.
