Book has been rebound by library, with expected inserts, stamps and inscriptions. Black and white photographs throughout. Binding remains firm. Pages and photographs are lightly tanned with stains and markings throughout. Boards have light shelf-wear with corner bumping. Gilt lettering is bright and clear.

Description: Green boards with gilt lettering on front cover and spine. Gilt picture of an elk makes for a striking presentation in spite of some random splotches or stains that are present more on the front than rear. There are three small 1/4" in length x 1/16" width white marks. maybe paint. Some rubbing and fraying of top and bottom of spine, but no tears. Corners are rubbed, but not swollen. End papers are toned. Former owner's name in pencil on the first front end paper. After the half title page there is a crack on the inside of the binding. However, the front hinge is still very much operational. No library marks or bookplates save the pencilled name. Black and white pictures of game killed in the 1800s-wapiti, elk, mule deer.

Selous thanks Heath for sending him a copy of The Bombay Natural History Society, Selous explains why he does not subscribe to the society. If he should ever visit India, he would like to meet Heath and renew their acquaintance. Selous ends by inviting Heath to have another look at his museum. Tipped onto front end paper are 3 newspaper cuttings relating to Selous death. Blind stamp to upper margin of half title and title page of the author's address. Publisher's grey cloth, gilt title and deer head vignette to upper cover, cloth clean and bright.
