Moderate rubbing with some wear to joints, spine ends and corners, which are bumped, tiny stain to front board, rear free endpaper lacking. Moderate toning to interior, presentation inscription from Holmes to front free endpaper. $950. * Fourth edition. The inscription reads: "Mrs Fairfax Harrison/ from her friend & servant/ O W Holmes/ February 28. 1905." Mrs. Harrison was born Hetty Cary. Her husband, from a distinguished Virginia family, was a lawyer, businessman and author of books on thoroughbred horses, agriculture and Virginia history. He was an executive with the Southern Railway Company and its president from 1913 to 1937.
