Description: A near fine copy of the first hard cover edition in a merely good(not price-clipped) dust-jacket. Viking logo to base of half-title page. The text is wholly unmarked, pristine, and there are no ownership indications to the endpapers, front or back. No visible wear at all the the speckled linen-covered boards, the lettering of which remains remarkably bright and fresh in appearance, both to the front board and the spine. One 1/4" ink spot to front endpaper is the only blemish to the book, which is a result of the previous owner having blacked-out a critical comment penned to the front flap. Four lines of front flap text also underlined in ink. Surface wear and rubbing to the extremities of the jacket, with a 1/2" intact tear at base of rear spine seam. All-in-all a sharp copy of the true first edition.

Jacket price $7.50 The book is vg+, tight, clean, with slight bumping to lower corners. The dust jacket is good+ to very good- with the following defects: triangular clip out of front flap below the price, minor small chips along top edge, some edge tears up to 1" long, minor paper loss with tiny chipping along lower edge, some small nicks in jacket along creases, and some rubbing and some dirt specks. This would be a most serviceable first edtion for the budget minded. Clearly it is not a prime copy, but neither is it a copy with hideous defects. A middle of the road copy if ever there were one.

Description: First edition in a first state dust jacket, hardcover with top edge stained green, pages were not all cut to the same length and are jogged to the head leading to a touch of creasing to tail edge of some pages and a faint crease to lower corner of text block, book has a tiny skew to the binding, minor bumps to spine ends and cover corners, and slight sunning to spine with a touch of fading to head of text block, otherwise a solid, tight, clean VG+ copy in a VG unclipped dust jacket, which has moderate bumps with very short chips and tears to spine ends and corners, some edgewear with a small chip to head of front cover with a thin crease to back cover from upper corner, a touch of sunning to the spine, and areas of light rubbing.
