Description: ".a true picture of London life, cadging made easy, the He-She man, doings of the modern Greeks, snooking kens depicted, the common lodging house gallants, lessons to lovers of dice, the gaming table etc. Embellished with humorous illustrations by George Cruikshank." The original pebble-grained cloth covers have soot darkening to the spine, one inch near top, and one inch along the fore-edge of the front cover. Some darkening also to top and fore-edge of textblock. Internally a very good copy with the hand-coloured fold-out frontispiece present. Smaller woodcut illustrations in text. An excellent candidate for rebinding or restoration. Scarce.

Description: Frontispiece, 131p. Publishers original crocodile patterned cloth. This is a later reprint because it includes the ad for 'Annals of Fashionable Gallantry' at the end of the book. A title which was published in 1885. Slight tear along the upper part of the rear cover hinge. Small chips at the head band otherwise internally clean.

Description: First Edition (under this title) of a colorful guide to London's underbelly in the mid-1800s. Crown 8vo (182 x 109mm): 131,[1]pp, with folding hand-colored frontispiece (dated March 22, 1822) and woodcuts throughout by George Cruikshank. Original crocodile-textured dark beige cloth, spine titled in gilt ("The Dens of London"), pale yellow coated end papers. An excellent example (minor nick to cloth), tightly bound and clean throughout. Goldsmiths'-Kress 35898. Not in Cohn. Apparently a duplicate, with new title page, of The Dens of London Exposed (the running title of this copy), first published in 1822. The 35-page canting dictionary appear at rear. N. B.
